Majid is a young talented singer of Iraqi folk music. A gentle, well-mannered, man with a strong stage presence, he lives and works in the province of Nasriyah in southern Iraq. The film details the obstacles and constraints Majid and his band face as a result of the actions of extremist Islamist groups and the unappreciative attitude of local officials. They all consider art and singing a sin and forbidden. But Majid and his band carry on and face up to the challenge before them, to ensure that art remains alive in their city, Nasriyah.
Omar Falah was born in the province of Nasriyah and studied cinema at the Academy of Fine Arts, Baghdad University. He went on to participate in a filmmaking workshop around the subject of Human Rights (2010), organised by the German Human Rights Institute in cooperation with the Goethe Institute and Independent Film and Television College (Baghdad). In the course of this workshop, he made his first documentary film, Sing Your Song (2011). He lives in Nasriyah and works as a director in one of the Iraqi television stations.
